Possible iPod touch LCD and digitizer assembly compared to older gen, iPhone 4 (video)

Look who's back. The LCD plus digitizer combo that we first laid eyes on last month seems to have leaked out again, still claiming it'll be part of Apple's upcoming (unannounced, but popular knowledge anyway) iPod touch 4th generation refresh. It continues to insist it'll have a front-facing camera, pointing to the rounded hole in its forehead as evidence, and we're now inclined to trust it that little bit more given the leaking site's prior record. A visual inspection reveals it to have the same fused design as on the iPhone 4, which naturally invites speculation that the retina display will be pulling some PMP duty as well. Apple holding a media event September 7, says Bloomberg

Not sure how exactly this slipped our neural net, perhaps it was added in a later update, but yesterday's Bloomberg revelation about a potential Apple TV show rental service now also includes the following tip: Steve Jobs et al plan on hosting an event in San Francisco on September 7. This just so happens to be on a Tuesday and meshes perfectly with Apple's annual Mac plus iPod touch promotion (which ends on the same day). Of course, we could've told you Apple would be holding an early September iPod refresh event this time last year -- the real question is what else might be revealed during the keynote?

Pre-orders begin for Apple Quad, 8 and 12-core Mac Pro

Mac lovers might seek solace in this particular piece of news that details out Apple’s latest venture. Apple has put up the feature-rich variants of the Mac Pro for pre-orders. The gadgets are available in a host of configuration options for users to select from.(ch-’for users to select from’ to users can select from)

Users can choose to purchase the gadget with either one 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon Nehalem, two 8 cores 2.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon Westmere or two 12 cores 2.66GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon Westmere processors.

The gadget can be purchased with either 3GB or 6GB of storage capacities and integrates a 3GB/s SATA HDD operating at 7200rpm and offering 1TB internal memory. Visuals of the unit are backed by the 1GB ATI Radeon HD 5770 graphics card.

Users are also provided with an 18x SuperDrive as well as an Apple Magic Mouse with the Mac Pro. Additionally, the device comes with Apple’s keyboard featuring a numeric keypad and a user guide.

The Mac Pro with Quad-Core processor is priced at $2499 (approx. Rs. 115,300) and the 8-core processor costs $3,499 (approx. Rs. 1,61,290). The 12-core variant can be picked up for $4,999 (approx. Rs. 2,30,430).

Next generation Apple iPod touch to be fitted with front facing camera?

The title could perhaps be a bit misleading. The question is not whether the next generation iPod touch will have a front facing camera or not. What’s more important is if the pictures that surfaced on MacRumors could indeed be that of the fourth generation iPod touch.

Apparently, it was an iPhone parts supplier who leaked the images of what is touted to the bezel and front LCD of the next iPod touch. The pictures depict a front-sided hole in the bezel that sparked off the front-facing FaceTime camera speculations.

The high-resolution images seem to show an Apple © 2010 stamp marked on the device parts, while the April 29, 2010 date is clearly imprinted onto the panel. This probably means that the parts could indeed be those from Apple and the build date is quite new too.

In the mean time, we haven’t heard an official peep about this so-called next generation iPod touch from Apple as yet. Ah well, it’s the upcoming iPod season in September that explains the timely rumors.

Last year, we’ve posted the simple most expensive iPhone and this time, we’re revealing the world’s most expensive iPhone 4′s. Both these iPhone 4′s are designed by Stuart Hughes.

The diamond version, we’re having this in $19,514 , which features a shell that has been “encrusted with circa 6.5cts of top quality VVS , colour ‘F’ diamonds.”

Next is the gold model, it’s shell is made from pure 24ct. gold and is priced at $2,395.

If You Want a Second Drive in Your iMac, You Better Get It From Apple

According to a new report by One World Computing, it will be extremely difficult, though not impossible, to install a secondary solid state drive (SSD) to the new 27-inch iMac introduced earlier this week as part of Apple's desktop upgrades. While the new iMac can support a secondary drive, unless you order one with the secondary SSD pre-installed from Apple, there are no mounting brackets or connectors for easy installation.
 

Apple Battery Charger does not boast any magic

Hmmm, it looks as though there won't be any pixie dust used in the manufacturing of the Apple Battery Charger due to its final plain name. According to Apple, this battery charger is still extremely efficient while boasting looks which will definitely cause a second look for most. At $29 a pop, it is a tad pricey compared to other regualar battery chargers, but good thing the fruity company decided to throw in half a dozen AA batteries in a go, letting you charge up to two of these at any one time. Apple says its rechargable batteries will have a lifetime of 10 years, but they did not release further essential information such as the number of charging cycles it offers before performance starts to deteriorate as well as the number of hours of real world use.

Oddly enough, Apple won’t use an online application but instead a free downloadable app , a clever way to verify that everyone applying for case does, in fact own an iPhone 4. To find it from your iPhone, search for “iPhone 4 Case Program,” or use iTunes.

Choose your case

After the quick download, you can open the app and sign in using your iTunes account name and password, or your Apple ID. Apple won’t offer any sort of in-store pickup to get the cases to you in a hurry. Instead, you’ll need to wait three to five weeks for it to arrive via snail mail.

The fine print

If you bought your iPhone 4 before today – July 23 – hurry up and apply! Apple will cut off free applications for this pool of owners on August 22, essentially giving you one month from the beginning of the program. Owners who buy one between today and September 30, when the program ends, will have 30 days from the date of purchase to apply.

Major Flaw Found in Apple’s Safari Browser

As Apple continues to grow up and gain market share, they will be subject to the same typee of attacks that Microsoft has become so used to defending.

Apple is known for its tendency to deny problems with its popular gadgets, making life miserable for customers when such problems occur. While Apple’s iPhone 4 antenna issues are currently stealing the show, there’s perhaps no better example overall than Apple’s spotty track record on security.
Security research firm Secunia just released a list of vulnerabilities and Apple for the first has come out on top as the most vulnerable. Secunia warns, “[The] graph is not an indication of the individual vendors’ security, as it is not possible to compare the vendors based on number of vulnerabilities alone.”
Apple’s supporters were quick to attack the report. AppleInsider writes:

Not all vulnerabilities are equal: Secunia outlines five levels of criticality ranging from minor “not critical” issues to “extremely critical” problems that can result in remote exploits without any interaction from the user, and for which active exploits are already known to exist. Yet Secunia’s vulnerability report totals throw all these various types of flaws together into sums that are frequently used for meaningless comparison purposes.

It’s ironic that almost simultaneous to the report another significant security flaw in Safari aired. Safari — Apple’s browser software — has oft seen releases so buggy to the point that they were unusable. Safari 5 certainly offered some improvements in that department, but it apparently doesn’t fair particularly better in the security department than past releases, including Safari 4 which had a flaw so severe it prompted a Department Homeland Security warning.

Apple Is Not the New Microsoft. And, Yet …

Apple reported record revenues earlier this week  but Microsoft had a blowout quarter of its own, reporting revenues Thursday of $16.04 billion — enough to keep the Redmond giant ahead of the Cupertino company in this particular financial metric.

Apple remains the most valuable high-tech company by a fair margin. And, perhaps more importantly, when Apple exceeded expectations on Tuesday shareholders cheered, adding about $7 per share from the previous day, before the after-hours earnings report.

Microsoft’s superb quarter was greeted, instead, with crickets. Shares in the company were actually down fractionally in after-hours trading.
“It’s a great quarter — but does that matter?” Colin Gillis, analyst at BGC Partners, told Reuters. “We all knew the business refresh cycle was in place. This is the dilemma for Microsoft — how do they get the stock moving again?”
The stock chart above tells the story: For the past five years Apple has screamed, and Microsoft has coasted. Fair? If you think the market is by definition never wrong, that’s not even a fair question.
