Tabs in the browser facilitate surfing tremendously. However, the overview is lost when many tabs are open at the same time. Download and install an add-on called ‘FoxTab’. Restart Firefox after the application is installed.For calling up FoxTab, click the new symbol in the navigation bar or press [Ctrl] + [Q]. The tool now shows all open tabs in a 3D pane. It contains the tabs of all open browser windows.
You can navigate either by using the buttons, arrows or the mouse. You can click a particular preview image to close the 3D view and switch to the relevant tab. You can also change the coverflow display by choosing the appropriate buttons at the bottom right of the screen. The wall mode is practical to use as it shows all opened websites as icons in a large window. However, if many sites are open, selecting the correct website becomes diicult at times due to the small display.The search function comes in handy if you cannot fi nd the desired content. For that, click at the left bottom on the symbol of the magnifying glass. The display of the appropriate tabs automatically gets updated when you type the name thereby taking you to your destination. To adjust the display and operation, the add-on offers innumerable options, which can be accessed quickly via the symbol to the left bottom. Note: The current version of Flash Player must be installed on the computer to be able to use FoxTab. You can download the fl ash player for free from ‘http://get.adobe.com/en/flashplayer’.
The extend-able Quick-Launch bar offers direct access to important programs. However,more the number of applications is added to it, the more confusing it gets.The time advantage is lost in the effort spent on searching for the right program.
Set aside My Computer as an independent task bar on the desktop. In this way you can quickly access it. Right click the ‘Start’ button, select ‘Properties’ and activate the option ‘Start Menu’. This is important since the tip doesn’t work if you use the ‘Classic Start Menu’. Now right click on the ‘Taskbar’ and deactivate the option ‘Lock the taskbar’.Instead of individual programs, you can add folders in the Quick Launch bar. Related programs can thus be grouped, which improves the overview considerably. However, there is one drawback: the operating system opens the Windows Explorer with the folder contents if you click such an entry. It would have been much better if you could make a selection in the form of a menu. There is a trick though that can help you.
ACTIVATING A FUNCTION: Open ‘Start | Run’, enter ‘regedit’ and click ‘OK’. You can directly type the command in the text fi eld in the start menu in Vista and Windows 7 and press Enter. Navigate to the ‘HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explore\Advanced’ key in the Editor. Then right-click in the right window area, open ‘New | DWORD value’, type the name ‘CascadeFolderBands’ and then confirm with enter. Double-click the new entry and change its ‘value’ to ‘1’ and re-confi rm with ‘OK’. Then close the registry and restart the computer.
INTEGRATING FOLDERS: Now add the desired directories in the Quick Launch bar. For that, right-click a free area on taskbar and deactivate the ‘Lock Taskbar’ option. After right-clicking the double arrow of the Quick Launch bar, select the ‘Open folder’ context command. Create the desired sub-folder(s) in the directory of the bar, which is now accessible, and sort the desired program links as per your liking. For instance, it is practical to compile all the browsers in one folder. If you integrate several folders at the fi rst level, you have to change their icons so as to dif erentiate them better. You can also create several directory levels. However, you can also use the Start menu in that case.
USING NEW FUNCTIONS: Click on the double arrow icon in the Quick-Launch bar. You can see the integrated folders below, in the menu that pops up. If you point at one, it opens and shows the links it includes. Just clicking it once is enough to start the corresponding program. To open the folders in the Explorer, right-click on them and select‘Open’.

Laptops tend to lose their charm quickly when you’re constantly looking for the nearest power outlet to charge up. How do you keep your battery going for as long as possible? Here are 15 easy ways to do so.
1. Defrag regularly - The faster your hard drive does its work - less demand you are going to put on the hard drive and your battery. Make your hard drive as efficient as possible by defragging it regularly. (but not while it’s on battery of course!) Mac OSX is better built to handle fragmentation so it may not be very applicable for Apple systems.
2. Dim your screen - Most laptops come with the ability to dim your laptop screen. Some even come with ways to modify CPU and cooling performance. Cut them down to the lowest level you can tolerate to squeeze out some extra battery juice.
3. Cut down on programs running in the background. Itunes, Desktop Search, etc. All these add to the CPU load and cut down battery life. Shut down everything that isn’t crucial when you’re on battery.
4. Cut down external devices - USB devices (including your mouse) & WiFi drain down your laptop battery. Remove or shut them down when not in use. It goes without saying that charging other devices (like your iPod) with your laptop when on battery is a surefire way of quickly wiping out the charge on your laptop battery.
5. Add more RAM - This will allow you to process more with the memory your laptop has, rather than relying on virtual memory. Virtual memory results in hard drive use, and is much less power efficient. Note that adding more RAM will consume more energy, so this is most applicable if you do need to run memory intensive programs which actually require heavy usage of virtual memory.
6. Run off a hard drive rather than CD/DVD - As power consuming as hard drives are, CD and DVD drives are worse. Even having one in the drive can be power consuming. They spin, taking power, even when they?re not actively being used. Wherever possible, try to run on virtual drives using programs like Alcohol 120% rather than optical ones
. 7. Keep the battery contacts clean: Clean your battery’s metal contacts every couple of months with a cloth moistened with rubbing alcohol. This keeps the transfer of power from your battery more efficient.
8. Take care of your battery - Exercise the Battery. Do not leave a charged battery dormant for long periods of time. Once charged, you should at least use the battery at least once every two to three weeks. Also, do not let a Li-On battery completely discharge. (Discharing is only for older batteries with memory effects)
9. Hibernate not standby - Although placing a laptop in standby mode saves some power and you can instantly resume where you left off, it doesn’t save anywhere as much power as the hibernate function does. Hibernating a PC will actually save your PC’s state as it is, and completely shut itself down.
10. Keep operating temperature down - Your laptop operates more efficiently when it’s cooler. Clean out your air vents with a cloth or keyboard cleaner, or refer to some extra tips by LapTopMag.com.
11. Set up and optimize your power options - Go to ‘Power Options’ in your windows control panel and set it up so that power usage is optimized (Select the ‘max battery’ for maximum effect).
12. Don’t multitask - Do one thing at a time when you’re on battery. Rather than working on a spreadsheet, letting your email client run in the background and listening to your latest set of MP3’s, set your mind to one thing only. If you don’t you’ll only drain out your batteries before anything gets completed!
13. Go easy on the PC demands - The more you demand from your PC. Passive activities like email and word processing consume much less power than gaming or playing a DVD. If you’ve got a single battery charge - pick your priorities wisely.
14. Get yourself a more efficient laptop - Laptops are getting more and more efficient in nature to the point where some manufacturers are talking about all day long batteries. Picking up a newer more efficient laptop to replace an aging one is usually a quick fix.
15. Prevent the Memory Effect - If you’re using a very old laptop, you’ll want to prevent the ‘memory effect’ - Keep the battery healthy by fully charging and then fully discharging it at least once every two to three weeks. Exceptions to the rule are Li-Ion batteries (which most laptops have) which do not suffer from the memory effect.
Bonus Tip #1: Turn off the autosave function. MS-Word’s and Excel’s autosave functions are great but because they keep saving regular intervals, they work your hard driver harder than it may have to. If you plan to do this, you may want to turn it back on as the battery runs low. While it saves battery life in the beginning, you will want to make sure your work is saved when your battery dies.
Bonus Tip #2: Lower the graphics use. You can do this by changing the screen resolution and shutting off fancy graphic drivers. Graphics cards (video cards) use as much or more power today as hard disk.
Yes, firefox is already pretty damn fast but did you know that you can tweak it and improve the speed even more?
That's the beauty of this program being open source. Here's what you do: In the URL bar, type “about:config” and press enter. This will bring up the configuration “menu” where you can change the parameters of Firefox. Note that these are what I’ve found to REALLY speed up my Firefox significantly - and these settings seem to be common among everybody else as well. But these settings are optimized for broadband connections - I mean with as much concurrent requests we’re going to open up with pipelining… lol… you’d better have a big connection.
Double Click on the following settins and put in the numbers below - for the true / false booleans - they’ll change when you double click.
One more thing… Right-click somewhere on that screen and add a NEW -> Integer. Name it “nglayout.initialpaint.delay” and set its value to “0”. This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives. Since you’re broadband - it shouldn’t have to wait.

Firefox Browser with its addons can make almost anything possible. For Torrent Downloading, we use different external standalone Torrent clients. However, Firefox plugin called Firetorrent makes it possible to download and manage your torrent files right from Firefox Browser window.
This feature is already available in Opera 10 by default without installing or making any changes. With this plugin, you will have the option to download directly to the browser, creating a new tab in the window that usually opens in Firefox when download any file. It can find all their management, check the list of files you’re downloading, the sources or seeds (seeds) to each torrent, the percentage of the download, as well as set limits on both upload and download for each file or the set of them all. The add-on though still in testing is fully operational and removes the need for any additional BitTorrent client. However upon the full release, it will offer users the ability to adjust limits for downloads and uploads along with other modes of configuration.

For the longest time trying to install Windows from a USB was a pain. You had to do this, do that, blah, blah. However recently freeware programs have been created to help make this task easier. Today I am going to tell you about such a program, WinToFlash.
WinToFlash is an application which allows you to transfer Windows XP/2003/Vista/2008/7 install from a CD/DVD to a [bootable] USB/flash drive. Although officially the developer does not state WinToFlash supports .ISOs, you can simply mount your .ISO and trick WinToFlash into thinking it is a legit CD/DVD and create your bootable USB that way.
To create a bootable USB Windows install, simply follow the "Windows setup transfer Wizard".
Take note: WinToFlash is in constant development by its developer. Currently WinToFlash is in Beta and is also a portable app.
After you have created your bootable USB with a Windows install on it, with WinToFlash, simply plug your USB into your computer and restart your computer. You should be able to boot from from the USB and install Windows now =). If you are unable to boot from it, you will have to go into your computer BIOS to change the boot order/settings to allow boot from USB.

You can allow users to run only specified programs in Windows 7 operating systems. It is up to you if you want your shared computer to allow users to run only specified programs in Windows 7. A shared computer in an office, for example, can be set in the same way if the company does not want the employees to run all types of programs. You can allow the users to run only specified programs in Windows 7 by using the Local Group Policy. However, you cannot do this in the Home editions of Windows 7as it does not provide the Local Group Policy Editor.
Click on the Start button.
Type “gpedit.msc” in the search box of the Start menu and press the Enter button on the keyboard.
Local Group Policy Editor will open. Scroll down to “User Configuration”, “Administrative Templates” and then “System” on the left hand side of the window pane.On the right hand side of the window, under “Setting”, navigate and double-click on “Run only specified Windows applications”.
Select Enabled from the window.
Click on “Show” under Options.
The Show Contents window pane will appear. Here you can type the applications you want to let the users run.
After you are done, click on the OK button.
Close the Local Group Policy Editor.
After this, if someone attempts to run an app which was not specified by you, he will an error message.
This feature to allow users to run only specified programs in Windows 7 is the best at preventing the users from accessing applications you don’t want them to use on a particular computer.
If you want to hide files on your hard drive, you may require some softwares which can do so , either by encrypting them or archiving so that they cannot be accessed without your permission. Now here i am going to show you a very simple way, by which you can hide your files in jpeg images.
In order to do this , you will need to have WinRAR installed on your computer. You can download that from internet without having to pay anything. Here are the steps for creating your hidden stash:
Create a folder on your hard drive, i.e. C:\Test and put in all of the files that you want to hide into that folder. Also, place the image that you will be using to hide the files in. Let the name of the image fie be sample.jpg
Now select all of the files that you want to hide, right-click on them, and choose the option to add them to a compressed ZIP or RAR file. Only select the files you want to hide, not the picture. Name it whatever you want, i,e. “Hidden.rar”.
Now you should have a folder that looks something like this with files, a JPG image, and a compressed archive:
Now here’s the fun part! Click on Start, and then click on Run. Type in “CMD” without the quotes and press Enter. You should now see the command prompt window open. Type in “CD \” to get to the root directory. Then type CD and the directory name that you created, i.e. “CD Test“.
Now type in the following line: “copy /b SAMPLE.JPG + Hidden.rar SAMPLE.jpg” and press Enter. Do not use the quotes. You should get a response 1 file(s) copied.
Just make sure that you check the file extension on the compressed file, whether it is .ZIP or .RAR as you have to type out the entire file name with extension in the command. I have heard that some people say that they have had problems doing this with a .ZIP extension, so if that doesn’t work, make sure to compress to a .RAR file. And that’s it! The picture file will have encrypted with the compressed archive inside! You can actually check the file size of the picture and see that it has increased by the same amount as the size of the archive. You can access your hidden file in two ways. Firstly, simply change the extension to .RAR and open the file using WinRAR. Secondly, you can just right-click on the JPG image and choose Open With and then scroll down to WinRAR. Either way, you’ll see your hidden files show up that you can then extract out. That’s it! That is all it takes to hide files inside JPG picture files! It’s a great way simply because not many people know it’s possible and no one even thinks about a picture as having to the ability to “hide” files. Enjoy!
We don’t usually prefer to lock our drives, but sometimes it becomes nesscary. Say for instance you might have stored your office documents in D:\ and you don’t want your kids to access it, in such case this technique can be useful for you. Please don’t try this tweak with your root drive (usually C:\ is the root drive) since root drives are not intended to be locked because they are mandatory for the system and application programs.
Start >> Run and type Regedit to open Registry editor
Create a new DWORD value NoViewOnDrive and set its value as
2^ (Alpha Number of Drive Letter-1) where Alpha number are simple counting of alphabets from A to Z as 1 - 26 For example: to lock C:\, Alpha number of C is 3 so 2^ (3-1) = 4 (decimal value)
To lock more drives, calculate the value of each drive and then set sum of those numbers as value
To unlock your drive just delete the key from the registry.

Greasemonkey is an excellent addon which makes Firefox a lot better. Unlike many other addons that let you do one particular thing, possibilities with this one are incredible. Greasemonkey extension lets you add so called ‘user scripts‘ which can add more functionalities or change the behavior of a web page. These scripts let you control any aspect of a web page’s design or interaction. For instance, you can add video download functionality to video sharing site like youtube, OR disable all ads on myspace OR change the appearance of gmail and lots lots more… So, how does it work?
2. Install Greasemonkey. Once done you should see a small monkey face at the right bottom corner of your browser window.
3. Start adding ‘user scripts.’
Userscripts.org is a directory currently listing over 2.000.000 Greasemonkey ‘user scripts’. All of these scripts are developed by users themselves. Most of them directed to solve common web problems, i.e. removing annoying ads, adding additional navigation options, and changing the look of the page. Once you’re on userscripts.org you can use their tag cloud box to quickly locate desired scripts. For instace, clicking on ‘myspace’ tag will show get you all scripts designed for myspace. Some of the popular script categories are:
Myspace (ex: remove all ads from Myspace, remove all flash media from profile pages, …)
Facebook (change the look of Facebook, remove ads, automatic page refresh every 30-90s, …)

Installing user scripts is extremely easy, just click on the script’s install button and Greasemonkey will do the rest. In case you don’t see desired changes then try restarting the Firefox. Tips:
1)Try to avoid installing scripts from elsewhere but userscripts.org. 2) While browsing through scripts you may see something like ‘NOTE: manual configuration required‘, if you have no idea how to configure them just avoid them.

1. Find bottlenecks From what we've seen so far Windows 7 is already performing better than Vista, but if your PC seems sluggish then it's now much easier to uncover the bottleneck. Click Start, type RESMON and press Enter to launch the Resource Monitor, then click the CPU, Memory, Disk or Network tabs. Windows 7 will immediately show which processes are hogging the most system resources. The CPU view is particularly useful, and provides something like a more powerful version of Task Manager. If a program has locked up, for example, then right-click its name in the list and select Analyze Process. Windows will then try to tell you why it's hanging - the program might be waiting for another process, perhaps - which could give you the information you need to fix the problem. FIND BOTTLENECKS:Resource monitor keeps a careful eye on exactly how your PC is being used 2. Keyboard shortcuts Windows 7 supports several useful new keyboard shortcuts. 3. Drag and drop to the command line When working at the command line you'll often need to access files, which usually means typing lengthy paths and hoping you've got them right. But Windows 7 offers an easier way. Simply drag and drop the file onto your command window and the full path will appear, complete with quotes and ready to be used. This feature isn't entirely new: you could do this in Windows XP, too, but drag and drop support disappeared in Vista. There does seem to be a new Windows 7 complication, though, in that it only seems to work when you open the command prompt as a regular user. Run cmd.exe as an administrator and, while it accepts dropped files, the path doesn't appear.
4. Customise your jumplists Right-click an icon on your taskbar, perhaps Notepad, and you'll see a jumplist menu that provides easy access to the documents you've been working on recently. But maybe there's another document that you'd like to be always available? Then drag and drop it onto the taskbar icon, and it'll be pinned to the top of the jumplist for easier access. Click the pin to the right of the file name, or right-click it and select "Unpin from this list" when you need to remove it.
5. Faster program launches If you've launched one instance of a program but want to start another, then don't work your way back through the Start menu. It's much quicker to just hold down Shift and click on the program's icon (or middle-click it), and Windows 7 will start a new instance for you.
6. Speedy video access Want faster access to your Videos folder? Windows 7 now lets you add it to the Start menu. Just right-click the Start orb, click Properties > Start Menu > Customize, and set the Videos option to "Display as a link". If you've a TV tuner that works with Windows 7 then you'll appreciate the new option to display the Recorded TV folder on the Start menu, too.
7. Run web searches The Windows 7 search tool can now be easily extended to search online resources, just as long as someone creates an appropriate search connector. To add Flickr support, say, visit I Started Something, click Download the Connector, choose the Open option and watch as it's downloaded (the file is tiny, it'll only take a moment). A "Flickr Search" option will be added to your Searches folder, and you'll be able to search images from your desktop. A multitude of other ready-made searches, such as Google and YouTube, can be downloaded from the windowsclub.com website.
8. Schedule Media Centre downloads You can now tell Windows Media Centre to download data at a specific time, perhaps overnight, a useful way to prevent it sapping your bandwidth for the rest of the day. Launch Media Centre, go to Tasks > Settings > General > Automatic Download Options, and set the download start and stop times that you'd like it to use.
9. Multi-threaded Robocopies Anyone who's ever used the excellent command-line robocopy tool will appreciate the new switches introduced with Windows 7. Our favourite, /MT, can improve speed by carrying out multi-threaded copies with the number of threads you specify (you can have up to 128, though that might be going a little too far). Enter robocopy /? at a command line for the full details.
10. Load IE faster Some Internet Explorer add-ons can take a while to start, dragging down the browser's performance, but at least IE8 can now point a finger at the worst resource hogs. Click Tools > Manage Add-ons, check the Load Time in the right-hand column, and you'll immediately see which browser extensions are slowing you down.
11. An Alt+Tab alternative You want to access one of the five Explorer windows you have open, but there are so many other programs running that Alt+Tab makes it hard to pick out what you need. The solution? Hold down the Ctrl key while you click on the Explorer icon. Windows 7 will then cycle through the Explorer windows only, a much quicker way to locate the right one. And of course this works with any application that has multiple windows open.
12. Block annoying alerts Just like Vista, Windows 7 will display a suitably stern warning if it thinks your antivirus, firewall or other security settings are incorrect. But unlike Vista, if you disagree then you can now turn off alerts on individual topics. If you no longer want to see warnings just because you've dared to turn off the Windows firewall, say, then click Control Panel > System and Security > Action Centre > Change Action Centre settings, clear the Network Firewall box and click OK.
13. Parallel defrags The standard Windows 7 defragger offers a little more control than we saw in Vista, and the command line version also has some interesting new features. The /r switch will defrag multiple drives in parallel, for instance (they'll obviously need to be physically separate drives for this to be useful). The /h switch runs the defrag at a higher than normal priority, and the /u switch provides regular progress reports so you can see exactly what's going on. Enter the command defrag /c /h /u /r in a command window to speedily defrag a system with multiple drives, or enter defrag /? to view the new options for yourself.
14. Fix Explorer The Windows 7 Explorer has a couple of potential annoyances. Launching Computer will no longer display system folders like Control Panel or Recycle Bin, for instance. And if you're drilling down through a complicated folder structure in the right-hand pane of Explorer, the left-hand tree won't always expand to follow what you're doing, which can make it more difficult to see exactly where you are. Fortunately there's a quick fix: click Organize > Folder and Search Options, check "Show all folders" and "Automatically expand to current folder", and click OK.
15. Faster file handing If you hold down Shift while right-clicking a file in Explorer, then you'll find the Send To file now includes all your main user folders: Contacts, Documents, Downloads, Music and more. Choose any of these and your file will be moved there immediately.
16. Create folder favourites If you're regularly working on the same folder in Explorer then select it in the right-hand page, right-click Favourites on the left-hand menu, and select Add to Favourites. It'll then appear at the bottom of the favourites list for easy one-click access later.
17. Disable hibernation By default Windows 7 will permanently consume a chunk of your hard drive with its hibernation file, but if you never use sleep, and always turn your PC off, then this will never actually be used. To disable hibernation and recover a little hard drive space, launch REGEDIT, browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power, then set both HibernateEnabled and HiberFileSizePerfect to zero.

Here is a few tips to speed up uTorrent Client. Similar can be implemented on any other torrent clients ,which you are using.
Step 1: Increase TCP connections
You need to increase the number of TCP connections that are allowed at max.Windows XP Service Pack 2 came with the number of allowed open connections to 10. This is to stop any piece of spyware(in our case bittorent client even) from totally taking over your internet connection. TCP connection allowed should be 50 for optimal performance. The best way to increase the maximum number of connections is to apply patch that is available at www.lvllord.de. A nice way to fix this is to download this patch .
The little tweak to the torrent client works great in certain times. If you’re using uTorrent go to Options menu then Preferences. In the Preferences go the Advanced Options. In the advanced options change the net.max_halfopen connections to 80. In the same section change the max half open tcp connections to 80. Once your done click on OK and you are all set. This tweak will let the maximum TCP connection available for the bittorrent client. Now start downloading you’ll realize a little difference in the download speed. Port forwarding technique is more effective than this.
A third point of interest is that some “windows updates” revert your tweaked tcp connections back to 10. So it’s wise to check this every now and then. You can check this by going to (in windows xp) Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer > System… Look for event 4226 (sort by event). If there are a lot of daily occurrences it’s likely that the max amount of half-open tcp connections was set back to 10. Or you’re infected with some nasty spy ware…
Step 2:Torrent Client Configuration In order to apply these tips you must know your maximum up- and download speed. You can test your bandwidth over here (stop all download activity while testing).

1. Maximum upload speed
Probably the most important setting there is. Your connection is (sort of) like a pipeline, if you use you maximum upload speed there’s not enough space left for the files you are downloading. So you have to cap your upload speed.
Use the following formula to determine your optimal upload speed…
80% of your maximum upload speed
so if your maximum upload speed is 40 kB/s, the optimal upload rate is 32kB/s But keep seeding!
