It'd be interesting how the general public in Switzerland will react to wireless carrier's Orange iPhone 4 promotion favoring female purchasers: the promotion at some Orange stores states that "Coffee and Croissants will be available to all of the ladies waiting to collect the new Apple device. Yes, that’s right, ladies. The slogan for this early-bird event is ‘Ladies First’ and men will only be allowed in when accompanied by a lady." Men, we're assuming, will be able to get in on the full action, unaccompanied by the opposite gender, after the hype dies down. We've heard of "No shirts, no shoes, no service" but open gender discrimination with its “ladies first” approach at an electronics retailer seems a bit egregious, even if the intent is not malicious for say. That said, it’s not like Consumer Electronics never had a “guy-biased” tendency, with women often shown as being digitally impaired: it’s dumb too. Apple products already attract a lot of hype and media attention--and some may argue unnecessarily so--making Orange's PR stunt that much more superfluous, but perhaps that's the result when you mix apples and oranges.
